A vice-Governor of the Primorsky Territory on foreign policy, agriculture and fishery Igor ULEYSKIY presented the government award to seamen of “Pallada,” information department of the Far-Eastern technical fishing university (Dalrybvtuz) reports. The solemn awarding ceremony was held on December 23, 2008, when the famous sailing vessel of Dalrybvtuz finished its educational voyage and arrived at port Vladivostok. The vice-Governor noted an important role, which a vessel plays in preparation of future staff for fleet of Russia.

In January-November 2008, container terminal “Tuchkovo” (Far Eastern Transport Group OJSC) handled 60,240 TEU (up 4.5 times), the company reports. During the first year of the terminal’s operation it returned some 15% of investments. By the end of 2008 the company plans to raise it by additional $1.5 mln. Thus payback period is to make 4.5 years according to the business plan. Container terminal “Tuchkovo” is a joint investment-infrastructure logistics project of Far Eastern Transport Group and Pantos Logistics (S. Korea).

TransContainer's sub at the East Siberian Railway launched regular shipment of saw-timber in containers, the company informed according to AK&M. After the project on the launching of the Lesosibirsk-Alexandria container route turned out to be of success at Krasnoyarskaya Railway many consumers expressed their interest to the conatiner services of TransContainer. In Oct. the talks with three largest regional timber entities (Kata, Pik-2005, Ust Ilimsky Wood Working Plant) on the timber shipment in containers were conducted. Over the 9-month period they shipped 200ths ton of timber.

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) yesterday said it has launched the Middle East-Indian Sub-continent-North America (MINA) service that will combine its current MIX and SINA services. The new service is a combination of the current MIX (Mediterranean-India Express) and SINA (South East Asia, India-North America) services. MIX runs between the US East Coast, Mediterranean, Middle East and Indian subcontinent with 11 2,000-TEU class vessels of which nine are supplied by UASC and two by Hanjin Shipping.
