    Big Port St. Pb issues ice restrictions for ship effective Dec.24

    With the formation of ice (needle ice) in the waters of Big Port St. Petersburg low temperatures, the Port Authority has introduced some restrictions on ice class of vessels entering the port. The restrictions come into force as of December 24, 2012. The corresponding order was signed by the harbour master. According to the order, the ATBs will be banned from entering the harbor and ships without ice class hulls are not allowed to sail but only with assistance of icebreakers, the vessels having any ice-class are permitted to sail independently or may require icebreaker assistance.
