The port of Liepaja plans to double its throughput in the nearest years

According to preliminary data, the port of Liepaja plans to double its throughput in the nearest years to 8-10 million tonnes per year, head of PR department of Latvijas dzelzcels (Latvian railway) says according to RZD-Partner. According to the source, it will require investment of some $10 million from 2011 to 2012 into construction of new approach railway lines and into extension of existing ones. It should be noted that so far only possible modernization of the port station is under consideration.
