A second ferry ship – the "AVE Libeka" – will be a part of the regular Liepaja-Travemunde (Germany) as of the year 2009. Yesterday evening, opening ceremonies were held for the route, and the first ship – the "AVE Liepaja" is on its way to Liepaja and will enter when the weather improves. Participating in the ceremonies were Mayor Uldis Sesks, AVE Logistics Executive Director Harry Rappoport, Terrabalt Director Yuri Solovyov, port, customs and Border Guard officials.

Both the "AVE Liepaja" and the "AVE Libeka" have room for 100 trucks and 396 passengers. The ferry will travel to the Lubeck borough of Travemunde three times a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Liepaja Special Economic Zone Executive Guntars Krievins said that he is pleased that Liepaja port will once again have a ferry connection with Germany because it always provides a stable, profitable cargo turnover and international recognition. Krievins underlined that ferry operator AVE Logistics is pinning great hopes on the venture. In the mid-90s, Scandline operated a regular ferry to Rostock, but it was transferred to Ventspils at the end of 2005.
